The Bolgatanga Traditional Council, led by the Acting President Naba Patrick Ayimbila Asaliya, along with Queen mothers, Assembly members from the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, Talensi District, and the Bolgatanga East District, as well as youth group leaders from the Upper East Region of Ghana, held an urgent meeting to appeal to Her Lordship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. They urged her to reconsider the decision to close seven courts in the region.
“At a meeting held at the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs on November 1, 2024, the Bolgatanga Traditional Council, Queen mothers, Assembly Members, and Youth Leaders shared their concern about the recent happenings in Bawku that took away so many lives. The traditional council is appealing to both factions of the conflict to allow peace to prevail.”
The council also appealed to the government and the Chief Justice to “reconsider their decision and reopen the courts and reinforce the necessary security.” They expressed concerns about how the conflict situation in Bawku is escalating to other parts of the region, where innocent people are being killed for no reason.
The Bolgatanga Traditional Council strongly stated that both factions of the conflict should “desist from killing innocent people who are not part of the conflict.” They further emphasized that the road leading to Walewale is a trans-ECOWAS road for people to travel and should not become a conduit for the killing of innocent individuals who have no connection to the conflict.
