“The women of Bawku, bearing the heavy burden of sorrow and witnessing the anguish of their children, have come together to raise their voices against the unjust military brutalities and corruption plaguing our beloved town.

In recent days, the presence of the military in Bawku has turned from a promise of security into a source of suffering. Innocent lives, including young men sitting in their homes after supper, have been tragically lost. The women now find themselves transformed into widows, and their children into orphans, not due to the conflict but as victims of military aggression. “

The women also appealed to the government to compensate for the widows and ophrans and to take pragmatic measures to restore peace in Bawku and its environs .

Women in a peaceful protest.

“The heart-wrenching reality faced by these women demands attention and action. We call for immediate compensation for the widows and orphans left in the wake of military brutalities. The suffering and agony inflicted upon our community cannot be ignored.

The women of Bawku stand united in their demand for pragmatic measures to solve the conflict and restore genuine peace. We implore the authorities to review the military presence, ensuring that it aligns with the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights.

It is imperative to recognize that the Kusaasi people are the rightful owners of Bawku, and no force should subjugate us. We question whether the state is on a mission to use security forces to annihilate us all, and we vehemently reject any such notion.

We appeal to the conscience of those in authority to intervene swiftly, address the grievances of the women and children suffering in silence, and restore Bawku to the peaceful haven it once was. The women of Bawku call for justice, compensation, and the assurance that our town will not become a battleground for unjust actions”.
