The school management, parents and organising committee of the Bolga Soe St. Paul Basic School has today 4th May, 2023, launched its 60th anniversary celebrations in the school premises to outdoor various activities to celebrate the occasion.
The six months long anniversary which starts from May to November, 2023 will be celebrated on the theme: Bolga Soe St. Paul Basic School at 60, the Role of Stakeholders in Holistic Education and Infrastructure Development.
The Headmistress of the Primary school, Madam Victoria Apana in her speech enumerated a lot of challenges the school is faced with key among them being inadequate school infrastructure and furniture. She said the old school block that birth the school is dilapidated and has become a death trap for the students which require urgent attention by all stakeholders.
” Though the school has chalked some success including producing very great men and women for our country, it has many challenges. Infrastructure problems: Look at our old block, it is at a deplorable stage. It is a death trap with cracks all over. If you go inside you can see outside through the walls. One of the offices has been converted into a classroom for the class one pupils and the place is too narrow and usually hot when the weather is hot. Again, there are no adequate office spaces for the three headteachers of the school. Both the KG, Primary and JHS teachers are forced to use one office space and this compromises the privacy of the headteachers and their teachers.
She added that the school lacks adequate furniture for both students to sit on which is causing inconvenience for both students and teachers.
“We have furniture problems.At the primary, we have only three chairs for the teachers and the teachers are ten so we are compelled to make benches for the teachers in the class.”
Madam Victoria has therefore appealed to parents and old students to come to the aid of the school with financial assistance during the period of the celebrations to alleviate the challenges facing the school.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Atinga Clifford said the anniversary celebrations will be used to raised funds to complete a nine unit two storey building that is been constructed by the Old students to provide befitting classrooms for the school and called on all stakeholders to come on board to contribute to the completion of the project.
There will be cleaning of the school surroundings and nearby areas, quiz competitions, sports activities and other activities which will run through the six months till the climax of the celebrations on 10th November 2023.
The Bolga Soe St. Paul Basic School was started in 1960.
