The last days of December every year affords all and sundry the time to pause, take stock and reflect on the things that came their way in that year and to re-plan for the coming year to do even better the things that they did well but it also afford individuals and organisations the opportunity to thank God for seeing them through the year and to seek the face of god to help them do away with acts or conducts that dimed the lights in their lives and organisations.
In his first new year message as a substantive police leader, the Inspector of General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. on behalf of the police administration, thanked God for the lives of officers and their families in the year under review. He also eulogised officers who died in the cause of the year and promised the support of the Police Administration for their surviving families
“As we show gratitude to God for how far He has brought us , we take this opportunity to eulogize our colleagues who passed on during the year. The Police Administration will do what is required to support their surviving families. Let us continue to keep them in our prayers.”
IGP Dr. Dampare who since his appointment has introduced a lot of reforms in the police service aimed at making the Ghasna Police Service a world reference point for standardised policing, also prayed for attitudinal change among his officers in the year 20222.
Dr. George Dampare who appear not pleased with acts of misconduct and unprofessional acts by the police officers that dime the lights of the service and make the public look down on them and overlook all their patriotic sacrifices , prayed to God for character among the few police miscreants who use the uniform to perpetrate crime.
“It is my hope that the few officers who are engaged in acts of misconduct and unprofessionalism that make the public look down on us and overlook all our patriotic sacrifices, shall desist from these practices in the new year and beyond, for us to regain the trust, confidence and respect of the public.”
Few police officers in the year under review have engaged in acts that have brought the name of the service into disrepute including charging the public for bail, extorting monies from traffic offenders and motor riders, brutalising Tamale residents which resulted in the interdictiction of some officers, the Ejura killings, Police officer burning a lover’s house in Bolgatanga, the maltreatment of Kumawu MP during the confirmation of Sekyere-Kumawu DCE, and recently the shooting and killing of one Simon Laayame by a joint police operation at Kpatia in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region and.
