The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Donatus Atanga Akamugri , the regional director of education as well as some team of official tour some of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has officially begun across Ghana, with the Upper East Region recording a total of 22,326 candidates sitting for this year’s exams with a break down of 9,775 males whiles the female recording the highest figures 12, 551 who are writing 95 centres accross the 15 districts/ municipalities in the region.
Mr Donatus Akamugri visit to Kongo Senior High School, one of the examination centres in the Nabdam District, with Mark Kurt Nawaane member of Parliament for the Nabdam Constituency to encourage candidates and monitor preparations of the candidates on their first day, the centre is hosting about 101 candidates drawn from three schools, Pelungu Junior High School, Damol-Tindongo Junior High School, and Ziemboug Junior High School.
The Nabdam District Director of Education, Gladys Ayamga, expressed appreciation for the visit and assured that the district was fully prepared for the examinations, noted that Nabdam has six examination centres, all ready to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
She advised candidates to remain calm and confident, urging them to approach the exams as they would a normal class exercise and cautioned them against examination malpractice, warning that any candidate caught cheating would have their paper cancelled, and encouraged students to rely on their own efforts and preparation.
The Upper East Regional Director of Education, Razark Abdul-Korah, reinforced this message, urging candidates to avoid panic and any form of malpractice. He encouraged them to remain focused and patient throughout the examination period, and advised that any student who feels unwell or encounters challenges should promptly report to invigilators for assistance.
Mr Akamugri highlighted that the government places high importance on the future of young people and urged the candidates to remain confident, noting that confidence plays a key role in good performance. He further advised them not to dwell on completing their papers but to focus on upcoming ones.“When you finish a paper and you are tired, rest small and get up and continue with your studies,” he said.
The Minister later visited the Presentation Brothers Junior High School A and B examination centre, where seven schools are writing their exams, where he reiterated the need for the candidates to eschew examination malpractice and again conveyed the President’s goodwill message,sharing his personal experience, he told the students that he once studied in a rural school where classes were held under trees, but that did not prevent him from pursuing education to the highest level.
He emphasized that through hard work and determination, he rose to become a Regional Minister, urging students not to be limited by their environment or lack of facilities.The Member of Parliament for the Nabdam Constituency,
Hon. Mark Kurt Nawaane, supported candidates at the centres by providing cash for their breakfast as he encouraged them not to panic and expressed confidence that they would pass with flying colours and gain admission to their preferred Senior High Schools across the Upper East Region, a total of 9,775 boys and 12,551 girls are participating in the exams this number, 19,381 candidates are from public schools, while 2,945 are from private schools.
